The Art of Healthy Living

We could all benefit from healthier lives. There are many reasons to live a healthy lifestyle and just as many approaches to doing so. It’s not always easy to embark on a quest for a healthy life – some methods may seem too extreme, limiting, or short lived – but there are many options to choose.

Healthy habits
A healthy life is surely the greatest desire of all of us. After all, life without health does not have the same meaning. The best way to feel happy, energetic, and healthy in the future is to lead a happy, energetic, healthy life in the present. The benefits and pleasures are both immediate and long-term.

We are increasingly moving in a direction where people finally realize that being healthy is much more than not being sick.

We cannot allow life to pass us by without living it with energy and stimuli that convey happiness. We must make life appealing and stimulating by having an assertive, active, participatory attitude to it.

How to have a healthy life
What can I do to be healthy?, How can I start a healthy life?, or How can I live a healthy and happy life? are often asked questions.

Let’s first look at what is healthy. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) health is “physical, mental, and social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease”. In other words, being healthy is not just the absence of disease, but essentially the physical and mental wellbeing of an individual. It is no accident that the WHO defines health in this way, giving the word a much broader meaning than the simple antonym of disease.

Although health is naturally associated with the word medicine, it goes far beyond the meaning that common sense often attaches to it, usually associating it only with curative medicine. Medicine is, however, much more than this, because its main concern is prevention of disease.

Doctors are aware that prevention is fundamental in a health system that wants to be “healthy”.

People’s lifestyles, poor diet, stress, and other factors significantly contribute to worsening of problems. We cite diabetes and hypertension as examples – diseases that are very closely associated with the habits of modern populations.

Many of the problems that modern medicine helps to solve could easily be avoided if some essential recommendations for practicing a healthy lifestyle were followed.

Changing habits and behaviors is imperative and cannot be postponed. This is not to say that we should follow all the rules to the letter to achieve a healthy life as if they were rigid, burdensome, and even emasculating plans for people. Life should be lived with intensity and pleasure, so we should never become mere prisoners of attitudes/behaviors that would be painful and limiting despite making us healthier.

Life is made of choices. Make yours in conscience, find balance between the pros and cons of your tastes for a healthier life and without forgetting in the last analysis that it is your quality of life that you want to improve.

We are talking about finding attitudes that stimulate and lead us to happiness and improve our health. This is not always possible, of course, but in the vast majority of cases it is perfectly attainable.

For example, imagine yourself on a simple walk in nature or enjoying your favorite fruit. These are two simple examples where it is completely feasible to simultaneously enjoy life and improve health.

Food and exercise

Healthy living is in our hands. Let’s not think that we can eat excessive amounts of sugar every day and that if one day we suffer from diabetes, it will merely be a matter of fate or bad luck. Don’t think that if you are persistently and daily subjected to high doses of stress, you won’t pay a high price for it one day. Let’s not think that we can smoke for years and not reap respiratory problems and degrade the quality of our lives.

Our attitudes are sooner or later reflected in our health.

Obviously, our attitude to life is a determining factor in making life healthier. Think about life in a positive way and feel good about yourself before you do anything.

At least pay attention to two important things. Firstly, nutrition. Good nutrition can do much more for your health than you realize. Nutrition and healthy living are inseparable concepts.

Secondly, physical exercise. Exercise, when done properly, can also considerably improve your health and well-being, and thus contribute to a better quality of life.

For all these reasons, we strongly believe that investing in the prevention of disease, the promotion of health, and well-being is of capital importance.

Do as we do, start discovering today the benefits of a healthy life!
